The Northern Whig is a bar and restaurant
situated right in the heart of the Cathedral
quarter, belfast’s social and cultural centre.

Well known for its award winning cocktails and locally sourced cosmopolitan
cuisine, The Northern Whig offers a spacious and smartly decorated interior.
As one of the premier outlets within The Horatio Group portfolio.

The front bar, which boasts floor to ceiling windows, is the perfect place
to enjoy a lunch time coffee or post work drink with friends, while the
restaurant offers sophisticated dining in sumptuous surroundings.

The building (and namesake) was originally a newspaper - formed in 1823
to which it moved to the current bar's location in 1922 until 1963 when the
newspaper ceased production. During the 1941 Belfast blitz, the building
sustained sizeable damage which can be seen in historical images. From
1963 - 1997, the building was used as office space until it was bought and
turned into a bar that it stands as today.

The Northern Whig has some great offers including £4 cocktails during our
cocktail happy hour (5pm-9pm). We also have great entertainment with a
live DJ every Friday & Saturday night.

We look forward to welcoming you to The Northern Whig soon.
